Visit Old Town, Tacoma!

What does the year 1865 mean to you? Tacomans in Old Town recognize it as the year Job Carr founded the close-knit neighborhood by the water. Home to late 1800’s architecture, many of the homes have been here since it’s beginning, giving it a historic feel that stands on it’s own in comparison to surrounding Tacoma neighborhoods.

Historic Old Town boasts great walkability, with all of the amenities one needs for a relaxing evening by the water. Hang out at the Old Town Park for a relaxing conversation, or let the kids run free and visit the Job Carr Museum. With a variety of businesses and eateries, there is something for everyone!

Tacoma’s Oldest Bar

Venture into Tacoma’s oldest bar, The Spar, for a bite to eat. Belly up to the bar for a cold one, play a game of pool while waiting for your food, or take a client on a business meeting. The real secret? Hanging with the locals and singing karoake or enjoying live music on Saturday nights! The Spar also offers a cafe, if you are looking for a coffee or italian soda on your way down to walk the water. ABODE recommends: the Spar chips. Don’t forget the special sauce ;)

Montamara brings unique flair to the Old Town eatery scene

Walk into the heart of the Old Town business district, and you will find Montamara Kitchen. The intimate eatery has gained a following by taking Tacoma’s traditional breakfast and lunch favorites infusing Spanish, Mediterranean and Spanish influences. For breakfast goers, Montamara holds Happy Hour from 8:30am-11am Monday through Friday. ABODE recommends: Biscuits + Gravy (made with daily homemade, fresh biscuits - limited supply)

For you coffee lovers, Old Town also offers Curran Coffee Co. and Anthem, both great options to satisfy your caffeine needs. Get your bike fitted, or prepare yourself to ride along Ruston Way by visiting Old Town Bicycle, who have been serving the community for more than 20 years. If you are looking for seafood, opt to order and hang outside at the Northern Fish Co. while taking in the views of the water.
